Student Bexie Archer, who played Charity Hope Valentine in a local operatic society’s recent show Sweet Charity, made a surprise appearance at the Shrewsbury Ark charity drop-in day centre.

Bexie, 18, who starred in her first principal role with Shrewsbury Amateur Operatic Society, represented the cast of the musical when she unexpectedly ‘dropped in’ at the Shrewsbury Ark to present a cheque for £410 from the proceeds of the show’s raffle raised by audiences of Sweet Charity.

“This is a tremendous charity doing wonderful work,” said Bexie who plans to move on to a drama school in September to further her career on the stage.

She was given a conducted tour of the three storey centre at 10 Castle Foregate, Shrewsbury, by manager Tim Compton who showed her the kitchen, laundry and clothes store which are all used by homeless and vulnerable people in the Shrewsbury district.

Bexie, who has just completed her A Levels at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College, was most impressed with the clothes that Shrewsbury Ark keeps for homeless people.

“I tried on an outfit and was most impressed,” she added.

Manager Tim Compton said he was most grateful to Shrewsbury Amateur Operatic Society for its support of the charity.  “It’s a wonderful gesture – we rely so much on donations to help us achieve our annual budget,” he added.
